We love seeing well-crafted heroes in the stories we watch. By the end, he knows what a monster he's become, and he hates how much he loves it. But you also realize that he feels guilt for the pain that he's caused and he's aware of his selfishness. On rewatch you realize that Walt is driven by pride nearly from the start. But you can always understand why they did them. Fring, Jesse, Hank, and Skyler all wind up doing terrible things by the end. You see him become arrogant off his victories, and you see him fall because of his arrogance.īreaking Bad shows you how anybody can be driven to do monstrous things. but you also see the moments when he sobers up. You see Walt become a villain, you see him go insane and paranoid, you see him hurt the people he claims to love most in the world. They become fewer and farther between, but they're there. You see glimpses of his humanity throughout, even up to the final episode. I think what makes this show so great is that he never winds up a complete monster. He starts out as a relatively relatable character and ends up a complete monster. It's kind of a cool feeling (similar to when I reread "It" as an adult after my first reading as a child the age of the kids in the book). Just curious if anyone else has had a different experience rewatching this show (or any other show for that matter). This time, I'm seeing a lot more of his humanity seeping through (e.g., telling Walter's son that he should have called his father when in trouble).Īnyway, this show is still my favorite drama series of all time (#1 by a mile) and I am surprised how much I'm loving the rewatch (see old characters like Tuco again). He was kind of a neutral figure (a bit arrogant, but funny). Still hate Marie lol, but I'm liking Hank more this time. Pinkman was always a character I felt bad for, but it seems to "hurt" even more this time (looking forward to my first time watch of El Camino afterwards!). He's one of the best television actors and I relish every second of his screen time. Other things experienced with the rewatch: Why the hell did I (and so many others) hate on her so much? She's in a stressful situation, dealing with financial strain, a husband acting "weird", a son with cerebral palsy, a sister that's a kleptomaniac, and she's holding it together. It could be that I'm only working through season 2 right now, but I don't see how I felt negatively about her before. Skylar is an entirely sympathetic character. However, I'm doing a rewatch now and my perception is different. I really hated her character (congrats to the actress). The first time I watched BB, I remember feeling intense disdain for Skylar. I'm just curious if anyone else had a similar experience.
